Mama! Look Barney…

I am not a TV person, we will watch a movie on the laptop or a series but I don’t go out of my way to watch tv, as a result Kamva rarely watches TV. Even when we watching movies <yes age appropriate ones> she will be excited if she sees a baby on the screen or an animal. But half the time she is not paying attention.

The baby expo was held at the dome last weekend and lots of mommies on twitter  took their bubs to see Barney and Mr Maker. Now I have not bothered with this type of thing cause I assumed the only cartoons Miss K knew was Ben 10, Spider Man(her favourite), Hello Kitty and Elmo. Now how surprised was I last night while going through an old magazine and she sees Barney and says ‘mama look Barney’ and she now knows Barbie and Noddy too. It seems I do not know my own child  :-(

Barney

Where we are at:

  • I have weaned Miss K off milk, she now has tea at bed time in her bottle. Decision to wean her off milk was because she was having lots of milk sometimes close to 2L of milk a day and not eating enough. She is now constantly eating and drinking less :-)
  • Miss K uses her potty A LOT, takes off her nappy and goes looking for it to use it. We are yet to do a number 2 in it – baby steps RIGHT?
  • Miss K sings most nursery rhymes and is now counting to 20 <Not perfectly yet but getting there>
  • Miss K loves playing dress up and I have recently bought her play heels, something I thought I would never do *cringe*
  • Now that Miss K knows my name is ANITA she uses it a lot. Why oh why do they teach her my name school?
  • We are playing on finally moving Miss K to her own room and stop Co-sleeping. I am currently shopping for a bed and some of the stuff for her room. Who knew there was so many cool stuff for children?

I will be moving to a new domain soon. A new name has been chosen, well sort of, thanks to Cupcakemummy :-) Thanks Coral.  I will warn you in good time.

P.S Big announcement is still a work in progress :-) Soon …

Weekend conversations

Toddler talk is fun. I love having conversations with Miss K. The way she prounounces things and the stuff she says always keeps me laughing. We had a few memorable conversations this past weekend

Me: Kamva bring me juice from the lounge please
Kamva: Hayi mama ngamanzi la(No mommy this is water)
Yes it was water – flavoured water. My child is a smarty pants :-)

Me:Kamva do you want eggs?
Kamva: No, eggs from mommy chiten(chicken)
This I found cute :-) I am being schooled by my toddler!  Love it

Woke up from my nap to Kamva staring at me
Kamva: Hi, I missed you
Me: Awww, sweet heart I missed you too
Kamva: Where’s my tiss(kiss)
Toddler love is the best

Kamva: Mama where Tayleb(Cayleb)
Me: He is with Sam sweet heart
Kamva: Mama where Sam – proceeds to yank phone out of my hand and ‘look’ for Sam
Me: Sam is at Home with Cayleb
Kamva: Starts signing every day I’m shuffling :-) ( Have a video of Cayleb singing this song)

Its Cayleb’s SPider man party this coming weekend and Kamva has been going on and on about Cayleb. Every time she sees a spider man picture she goes into animation mode and calls Cayleb name.

Miss K also insisted on wearing the boots Sam got her for birthday, because they where Tayleb’s boots :-) Boots in the heat but she did not seem to mind.

<I complained to Sam at the weekend telling her every place we went Kamva would see Cayleb. This is becoming an obsession and I think I have found my SIL :-) >

We had a great weekend

Potty training

So…potty training freaks me out. There I said I am freaked out about starting and I keep telling myself if I let Kamva do her thing she will eventually get the hang of things and potty on her own? This past weekend showed me how wrong I have been.

Need to put on my big girl panties «haha love the pun» and just start training her. Charlotte from ScaredMom suggested I wait till after winter to avoid the ‘taking a whole lot of clothes off’ thing but Kamva is fascinated with her pink potty. She sits on it and reads, refuses to wear her nappy or any pants and if we lucky she’ll sit long enough to make a wee.

I have been studying her and noticing her body cues when she is wee wee’ing or doing a number 2. The number 2 she does at certain times (that’s if she does not have a runny tummy). I think I am forced to start because she is so eager and ‘ready’. I don’t want to stall her and find out later she is not interested.

So wish me luck as we start the potty training. We will have her in less clothes and turn the heater up a little.

Birthday cake, friends and the Gautrain

So its official I have been a mother for a full 2 years :-) Its hard its ups and downs but all in all its been a good 2 years!

Yesterday Miss K had a ‘party’ at her school – where all her friends sat around a table and sang for her and she had to cut the cake. She cried when this happened, I think she must have been overwhelmed by all the attention. Her friends had cake some seconds but as always Miss K didn’t have some. She is not a fan of cake. They danced to the music the teachers played and ran around, I blame the icing for this :-)

After we left the school I took Miss K on the Gautrain, I know how much she loves it. We came to midrand to visit my office and everyone was happy to see how big she has gotten. They all commented on how talkative she is for a 2 year old? I am not sure what the standard is but I assume most two olds talk non stop!

We then went to woolies to get some winter clothes and Miss K was more attracted to the Ben 10 stuff then the pink pants I kept showing her. Would I be a bad mommy to get her Ben 10 PJ’s?

We had a relaxed evening and my older brother came to visit bearing gifts – Miss K was so happy to see him and he kep getting random hugs and kisses :-)

Turning 2 can be tiring :-)

Decisions, hard decisions

My sweetheart

The past week has been really hard on mommy and I have made decisions, really hard decisions, that have affected the both of us. We have changed addresses and changed the people we live with. We have gone to living in a house with a lot of people you are fond of to living in a house with just 3 people.

Sometimes parents need to choose what makes them happy in order to make their children happy. I know the last couple of weeks mommy has been moody and sometimes you saw mommy crying, its not your fault, its just that sometimes if we don’t deal with our feelings and things that make us unhappy they can come back and make us feel ugly.Lately I’ve been clouded by ugly feelings that made me take for granted all the good I have in my life.

Now that circumstances have changed I look at my life and I can see all that is good. I have good friends, a good partner, a good job and family that love me.

I look back and realise that fear is what has stopped me from making the ‘right’ decision and it stopped me from removing ourselves from the situation we where in. I feared I would not be able to get it right but I realise how wrong I have been.

Sometimes all it takes is one push in the right direction and then the rest will follow. Sweet heart, mommy has taken that one step in the right direction and things can only get better from here on. I am not saying there will be no hard\bad times, yes they will be but we will have each other to weather the storm with!

I love you sweet heart and thank you for teaching me each day to appreciate and enjoy every single moment we are given.

Wordless Wednesday – My sick baby

Kamva has been sick the last couple of days and especially worse at night :-(  This is her when she is ‘sick’. Every time we where not at home she would be some what ok. If it wasn’t for her cough I am sure the doctor would have thought we are lying. Just glad she is back on the mend :-)

Lolly pop dr gave us :-)

P.S Her new thing is to say ‘huh’ to everything I say and she says it before I even finish talking.
