I am a Toddler

My cousin sent me this poem which I thought is so true. Pity I could not find the author to credit them, if anyone does know who wrote the poem please let me know

“I am a Toddler!”

If it’s on, I must turn it off.
If it’s off, I must turn it on.
If it’s folded, I must unfold it.
If it’s high, it must be reached.
If it’s shelved, it must be unshelved.
If it’s pointed, it must be run with at top speed.
If it has leaves, they must be picked.
If it’s plugged, it must be unplugged.
If it’s not trash, it must be thrown away.
If it’s in the trash, it must be removed, inspected, and thrown on the floor. If it’s closed, it must be opened.
If it doesn’t open, it must be screamed at.
If it has drawers, they must be rifled.
If it’s a pencil, it must write on the refrigerator, computer monitor, or table. If it’s full, it will be more interesting emptied.
If it’s empty, it will be more interesting full.
If it’s a pile of dirt, it must be laid upon.
If it’s a stroller, it must under no circumstances be ridden in without protest. It must be pushed by me instead. If it has a flat surface, it must be banged upon.
If mommy’s hands are full, I must be carried.
If mommy is in a hurry and wants to carry me, I must walk alone.
If it’s paper, it must be torn.
If it has buttons, they must be pressed.
If the volume is low, it must go high.
If it’s toilet paper, it must be unrolled on the floor.
If it’s a drawer, it must be pulled upon.
If it’s YOUR toothbrush, it must be inserted into my mouth.
If it’s MY toothbrush, it must be inserted into YOUR mouth.
If it has a faucet, it must be turned on at full force.
If it’s a phone, I must talk into it.
If it’s a bug, it must be swallowed.
If it doesn’t stay on my spoon, it must be dropped on the floor.
If it’s not food, it must be tasted.
If it’s food, it must NOT be tasted.
If it’s dry, it must be made wet with drool, milk, or toilet water.
If it has a tail, I must yank it.
If Mommy wants me to come, I must run away.
If Mommy wants me to go away, I must CLING ON FOR DEAR LIFE!
If it’s stacked up, it must be knocked down.
If it’s sticky, it must go in my hair.
If it’s bath time, I must run around naked till I am caught!
If it is a rock, it must be picked up.
If it is a doll, it must not wear clothes.
If it is Mommy or Daddy, it must be hugged.
I am a Toddler!
Live life, laugh from within and capture every moment!

I love weekends

I love, love weekends. Come Monday morning I am already looking forward to the weekend :-)  We never really have anything planned but have fun none the less.

This passed weekend we went to visit Sam and Miss k had a ball with Sam’s son, Cayleb. Cayleb has a little swimming pool and as soon as Miss K saw it she wanted to jump inside and we couldn’t get them out when it was time to go home. Miss K kept imitating everything Cayleb was doing and they where both just having lots of fun swimming and eating sweets while Sam and I chatted away.

The plan was for Sam and I to chat and catch up but we spent more time mothering the babies then talking :-)

Sunday we spent the day with daddy. And next thing we knew it was Monday again and Miss K didn’t want to wake up :-)

Lovely weekend all round

If I had a daughter – Sarah Kay

I was sent this video today where Sarah Kay is reciting her poem ‘If I had a daughter’. I heart this poem so much and thought I should share the words which I got from this site. Its a long post but worth the read:

If I should have a daughter, instead of Mom, she’s gonna call me Point B, because that way she knows that no matter what happens, at least she can always find her way to me.
And I’m going to paint solar systems on the backs of her hands, so she has to learn the entire universe before she can say, “Oh, I know that like the back of my hand.”
And she’s going to learn that this life will hit you hard in the face, wait for you to get back up just so it can kick you in the stomach.
But getting the wind knocked out of you is the only way to remind your lungs how much they like the taste of air.
There is hurt here that cannot be fixed by Band-Aids or poetry.
So the first time she realizes that Wonder Woman isn’t coming, I’ll make sure she knows she doesn’t have to wear the cape all by herself.
Because no matter how wide you stretch your fingers, your hands will always be too small to catch all the pain you want to heal.
Believe me, I’ve tried. “And, baby,” I’ll tell her, don’t keep your nose up in the air like that. I know that trick; I’ve done it a million times. You’re just smelling for smoke so you can follow the trail back to a burning house, so you can find the boy who lost everything in the fire to see if you can save him. Or else find the boy who lit the fire in the first place, to see if you can change him.”
But I know she will anyway, so instead I’ll always keep an extra supply of chocolate and rain boots nearby, because there is no heartbreak that chocolate can’t fix.
Okay, there’s a few heartbreaks that chocolate can’t fix.
But that’s what the rain boots are for.
Because rain will wash away everything, if you let it.
I want her to look at the world through the underside of a glass-bottom boat, to look through a microscope at the galaxies that exist on the pinpoint of a human mind, because that’s the way my mom taught me.
That there’ll be days like this.
♫ There’ll be days like this, my momma said. ♫
When you open your hands to catch and wind up with only blisters and bruises; when you step out of the phone booth and try to fly and the very people you want to save are the ones standing on your cape; when your boots will fill with rain, and you’ll be up to your knees in disappointment.
And those are the very days you have all the more reason to say thank you.
Because there’s nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it’s swept away.
You will put the wind in winsome, lose some.
You will put the star in starting over, and over.
And no matter how many land mines erupt in a minute, be sure your mind lands on the beauty of this funny place called life.
And yes, on a scale from one to over-trusting, I am pretty damn naive.
But I want her to know that this world is made out of sugar.
It can crumble so easily, but don’t be afraid to stick your tongue out and taste it.
“Baby,” I’ll tell her, “remember, your mama is a worrier, and your papa is a warrior, and you are the girl with small hands and big eyes who never stops asking for more.”
Remember that good things come in threes and so do bad things.
And always apologize when you’ve done something wrong.
But don’t you ever apologize for the way your eyes refuse to stop shining.
Your voice is small, but don’t ever stop singing.
And when they finally hand you heartache, when they slip war and hatred under your door and offer you handouts on street-corners of cynicism and defeat, you tell them that they really ought to meet your mother.

Pockets of Love (via )

I love this post by colourgiggles! So cute and such a great idea :)

Pockets of Love I’ve got to be careful not to literally repost every post from Curly Birds, (I may have mentioned this is one of my very very favourite blogs!), but how can a girl NOT want to include all her lovely lovely ideas on Colour Giggles! Truly an inspiration for creative and original ideas, and all made out of love for her two little girls.. Take these ‘pocket hearts’ that were made for the new preschoolers at her daughters school for their first day of … Read More

Soccer, Promos, Greatness

I am so proud of my brother Miss K’s uncle, Vuyisa August, he just completed creating the new promo for Super Sport for the ABSA  PSL season 2011\2012. I am so proud I decided to blog about it and rave. Its going to be a hit for sure – judging by Miss K’s dancing when he came round to show it to us last night, this promo is brilliant!

My other brother, Tebogo, is in the promo too! I am proud of them both and I am crossing my fingers Vuyisa gets an award for this one.

<And no I am not saying its brilliant because my brother made it but because it is just AWESOME>

Catch the promo on Super Sport on DSTV starting today, 5 August 2011.

As Vuyisa would say GREATNESS.
