I had Miss K young,I was 21 when I fell pregnant and 22 when I had her. I never had given much thought to having children or thought much about not being able to conceive. I just assumed I would cross that bridge when I got to it.
Infertility affects alot of couples thus they can’t concieve without help. This is where egg donation comes in. Healthy woman can donate their eggs to assist couples who are going through infertility.Egg donors are needed for couples and singles who desire to have a child but who are unable to conceive without assistance. Frequently Asked Questions
What are the possible side effects?
Let’s get the 2 immediate general concerns out of the way
a) Am I going to put on weight? Well Girlfriend – you are on medication for 2 weeks…sooooo…I am not quite sure how many kilo’s you can pack on in 14 days, but if it is more than a kilo or two, step awayyyyyyy from the 7th slab of toblerone!
b) Am I going to turn into an emotional basket case / raving ice-pick killer? The doctors who we work with are not cowboys, i.e. they are Not pumping you full of hormones so that your body produces kazillions of eggs – They use a very mild/gentle stimulation protocol which is closely monitored. So…if you DO pick up that ice pick and lunge at your partner…me thinks you were predisposed to this kind of behaviour sans hormone medication!
Will I get paid to donate? You will be reimbursed R5,000 for your time, energy and inconvenience upon completion of the donation. Donors are not responsible for any of the medical costs. .
Will I still be able to have my own children one day? You do not use up your eggs by donating. The eggs you donate are eggs which would have been flushed away in your normal menstrual cycle
Is egg donation safe? It is as safe as having any elective procedure. We only deal with top doctors & clinics.

Egg donation in a nutshell!
Once your initial application to become an egg donor is approved (visit this website to apply:
http://www.nurture.co.za/donor-application/ you will need to complete a detailed application telling us more about yourself. If your application is successful, a Nurture representative will chat to you about exactly what being a donor entails.
Guideline for donation process
*please note, this can differ slightly between clinics.
If you are chosen, you will first have two initial one hour appointments at the clinic.
1) Dr appointment – Internal scan / Blood tests
2) Psychological assessment – To ascertain whether you fully understand the process and are emotionally mature/ready to donate.
Once the clinic receives the results, if they are all ok, you will get put onto a contraceptive pill for the next 6-8 weeks. (Unless you are already on one, which is ideal!)
The actual donation process starts approximately 6 – 8 weeks after initial appointment with the Doctor and psychologist.
Actual donation process
You have a brief appointment at clinic to collect your medication – approximately 5 to 7 days before you start treatment. Please note that these appointments cannot solely be done over the weekends. Only scans and emergency appointments are done over weekends.
DAY 1: Menstrual cycle begins. Clinic will advise when to start fertility meds.
DAY 8 – DAY 12: First, second & third scans with Doctor.
DAY 14: Egg pick up / retrieval – you will have to take this day off.
A doctor’s letter can be supplied for any/all of the visits.
How quickly does the process happen? Well Girlfriend, you first have to be chosen to donate (this part of the process is out of our hands – recipients choose their donor, based on what they like in your profile – so … sadly, some donors are never chosen, some are chosen after a year/a month/a day of being on our website.) However, once matched, the donation cycle takes place over a two to three month period.
The clinic visits cannot be scheduled for outside of normal working hours or on Saturdays.
So you will need to have a fair amount of flexibility – To summarise – you are looking at a minimum of 7 visits over a two month period.
