Afternoon Ramblings – Kamva’s Party

So I can finally relax again because we have found a party venue :-) <insert a happy face here> We (Miss K, daddy and me) went to look at the place yesterday afternoon and its perfect. It has jungle gyms, swings, slides, grass, shade for if it rains and a bike track for the scooters.

What I love about the venue is its got options for rainy weather too and so much for the kids to do. Miss K was impressed and cried a bit when we left :-)

The theme is still Elmo and everything will be done by the party planner at the venue, all we bring is the cake and snacks. I now need to figure out what finger foods to bring for the parents who will be coming. Anyone got any suggestions to feed them? Also what to feed the children, I know they normally waste food so I am looking for easy to make food that is child friendly.

I will be sending out invitations next week :-)

I can’t believe my little girl will be 2 in 4 weeks time! I am not sure where the time has went but this has been an amazing 2 years, yes it had its up and downs but it has been great having this angel in my life!!

Weekend Round Up

“Weekends are a bit like rainbows; they look good from a distance but disappear when you get up close to them.”

John Shirley

What a great weekend we had :-)

On Saturday we went to Papachino’s with Sam and Cayleb. We hadn’t seen Sam this year so it was great to chat and catch up. Sam has been raving about Papachino’s for a while and now know why. WHat a lovely place to take the kids too, they have a huge play area and they have bikes, scooters, ride ons, colouring in corners, pizza making for kids and really great child minders. One thing I think I loved the most about this place is that all you pay for is the food you eat and of course tip the child minders. You can spend hours there and know your kids are having fun. Brilliant combination right?

Kamva fell in love with the play area and Cayleb was her ‘guardian angel’ and held her hand every chance he got and acted like the big brother. Kamva on the other hand did not want her hand held and would come crying and say ‘mama Tayleb’ which was very cute :-)

After the lunch we went to Sam’s place to relax a bit before going home and Cayleb was sitting on the couch with a folder and Kamva came and tried to take the folder and Cayleb in a very serious tone told Kamva ‘I am busy working here’ that little boy is too funny.

Sunday morning we went to Victory Park for our photoshoot with Cilla which we won on Tanya’s blog. When they say Cilla is really patient with children its true, Kamva was not in the smiley, laughing mood but Cilla had patience and Kamva eventually gave in and started looking for Pooh and Kitty in the camera lens. I can’t wait to see the pictures :-) Victory Park is also a gem of a place, it has a play area and lots of grass to play in. Worth visiting again

Shoot outfit

Sunday afternoon it was really hot and Kamva was nappyless for most part of the afternoon and she was dry for up to an hour so maybe its time we really started with the potty train. She now makes a pooh at about 7 in the mornnig and also at about 5 when she comes home from school.(Sorry tmi mommy stuff) I think this month I need to get some huggies pull ups.

We had a good weekend :-)

‘Top it mama, ‘top it – Miss K speaks English

When it comes to language I had always been sure that I will speak Xhosa only to Miss K in the beginning and then when she is a little older I would introduce English. My thinking was she should be fluent and comfortable in one language, in our case Xhosa, then move onto the next one.  In my thinking I had forgotten of other people speaking English around her and myself speaking English without paying much attention when at home.

During December we visited Miss K’s grandmother  in the Eastern Cape and one of Miss K’s cousin stays with the Gran and he speaks English.  I didn’t think Miss K would pick up anything from him as we where there 10 days but I was wrong. She now tells me to ‘top it mama‘(stop it) when I do something she doesn’t like and tells me to ‘wait’ or ‘open mappy’ (open nappy)  and also she asks ‘Whata doin‘. After we had been back in Johannesburg I thought its just words she had picked up and does not know what they mean but she is always using them in the right context.

Miss K and Her cousin

I now realised I underestimated her intelligence and that she really is capable of learning two languages at once. I will now alternate between English and Xhosa and hope she does not forget the Xhosa language. And since its her first day back at school today I wonder what new words she will be using from now on :-)

The Joys Of Co-sleeping

Miss K has been sleeping in my bed since day one. Her cot is next to my bed and is more like a play pen then something she can sleep in. It was easier in the beginning to breastfeed her at night and not need to get up and get her out her cot, read a mommy who loves sleep.  I also felt I got more sleep when she was next to me and I could check on her with ease.

Now fast forward 18 months later and she still shares a bed with me. When she turned one I tried to ‘sleep train’ her and she slept in her cot for four hours. She had fallen asleep fine on her own but woke up screaming four hours later and I of cause jumped out of bed to check what was going on and after that episode I never tried again. When she was in hospital she refused to sleep in the hospital cot much to the nurses irritation and they allowed her to sleep with me on the small and hard hospital futons.

There are days when I wake up the next morning saying this co-sleeping thing has got to come to end as I wake up tired but I love having her next to me and  I change my mind till the next morning. Lately though with the heat being bad Miss K has been very restless in her sleep and if I am lucky I will get a kick to the eye and maybe a slap to the face.  But my favourite has to be her making me a pillow.

Mommy is such a comfy pillow

P.S I know not the most flattering pics of me :-)

I hope in the near future I finally grow some mommy guts and put her in a cot but until then I will ‘enjoy’ the kicks, slaps and being made a pillow.

Family Photo Shoot

Weekends are always so short but so great cause I get to spend time with Miss K. This weekend we went for a photo shoot at Image Perfect and it was unplanned, my friend Nosipho, was supposed to go but she had other commitments so we went in her place. What fun we had, Miss K was all over the place  and the photographer was complaining that she was too quick and she can’t good shots but must say the pictures came out very nice considering they where not edited at all just a few where made black and white.

Some of my favourite pictures from the shoot.
